For the past 19 years, the town of Fontenay-sous-Bois (a "banlieue", or suburb, east of Paris) has been providing art spaces for artists of all disciplines and nationalities. At the center of this action is a showcase for contemporary art: the galeru. Situated among the small shops in the heart of the old town center, this gallery in a former shoe repair shop has for the past 7 years been putting on an average of 8 highly varied site-specific shows a year, in which the artists' work takes the space and surroundings into account, each time creating a new surprise for passers-by and inhabitants alike. A space for research where each work/creation is confronted with an audience that hasn't asked for anything.
